Well, you probably know this already, but I'm a designer that does various design things.

Here's some of what I do:
Did you ask enough questions yet? Are they the right questions? Does everything else relate back to asking how it impacts the user experience?
Not overwhelming your user can be tricky. Big things can be missed, but oftentimes it's the small things that make the big difference.
Graphics communicating data and numbers, or just visuals communicating the incommunicable, the right picture can be worth… a whole lot of words.
A means to an end usually. Focusing on the front-end in order to communicate requirements or dig in and pound out some html, css, and maybe even some javascript myself sometimes—as long as I can ensure the needed look and experience is achieved.
Design can be all of these approaches and much more. Useful in any complex system, various design tools and methods might be just what's needed to crack that "unsolvable" problem in your organization & and it's not just for billion dollar corporations anymore.
